corruption allegations: Contractors approached Vigilance, lodged complaint against Executive Engineer

Srinagar, June 24, CNS: Anti-graft body Vigilance Organization Kashmir Friday received a complaint lodged by a contractors body accusing the incumbent Executive Engineer Irrigation & Flood Control Division Sumbal of fraud and malpractices.

Sources informed news agency CNS that a group of contractors from Sumbal Division has filed a complaint in the Vigilance Organization seeking thorough probe into the ‘bungling’ committed by Executive Engineer I&FC Division Sumbal Ghulam Jeelani. The complainants in their complaint have claimed that in lieu of huge bribe, the said Executive Engineer allotted contracts to blue-eyed person in his Division. “Executive Engineer Ghulam Jeelani minted money from contractors in return of undue favours. His role is dredging and sand extraction is also dubious that needs to be thoroughly probed,” reads the letter.

Confirming that Vigilance has received a letter against Executive Engineer Ghulam Jeelani for his alleged role in ‘corruption’ and ‘malpractices’, SP Vigilance for North Kashmir Mr Majid told CNS that they will proceed only after getting approval from the Central Office. “We have dispatched the complaint to our central office and will start a probe after receiving nod from the office,” he said.

Meanwhile, incumbent legislator from Sonawari Constituency Muhammad Akbar Lone demanded that ‘erring’ Executive Engineer should be sacked without any delay. “This officer (Executive Engineer) is the source of corruption and malpractices who needed to be taken to task. All the corruption charges leveled against him will prove correct, if matter is probed seriously,” Lone said. (CNS)
