YSS To Organize Rural Sports Festivals: DG Sports

Jammu June 21: Director General of Youth Services & Sports Department Jahangir Mir (KAS) chaired an important meeting of Districts Youth Services & Sports Officers of the Jammu Division in his office chamber here.

The meeting was informed by DYSSOs of different districts of the division that sports activities are in full bloom at Block and District Levels and the Sports Activity Calendar for the year 2016-17 is being followed strictly by the field staff of the Department.

Jahangir Mir while expressing happiness over the mass participation of school children in sports activities informed his subordinate officers about the new initiatives of the Department under which non student youth too will be engaged in games and sports. While elaborating the ideas, Mir stated that the time has come when everybody should be given a chance to prove his mettle in the field of sports.

While recollecting the comments of former Chief Minister of the State DG Sports said, that Mufti sahib once on his city tour at Srinagar said that playfields shall not be kept open for students only but non-students too shall be allowed there to practice and polish their talent of sports. While taking a cue from his worthy ideas Minister for Youth Services & Sports Department Molvi Imran Raza Ansari after a series of meetings instructed me to give the idea of ‘involving non student youth in games and sports’ a practical shape hence we have decided to organize tournaments and programs like League Knockout Tournament and Rural Sports Festivals for students and non-students. The rural sports festival shall be for the youth of 14-30 years age group and shall be organized at Panchayat/ Block/ District/ State Level.

While instructing the DYSSOs to prepare the calendar for the same Jahangir Mir said that the same shall be submitted to Rural Development Department for the arrangements of funds. While highlighting the main attractions of League Knock-out Tournament DG Sports said that this will surely help those talented non students who have a desire to showcase their talent. This will prove a decent platform for such ignored talent. He further stated that a separate calendar of activities for this tournament is under process and after its formal inauguration district Level matches will be played in PP Mode.
