Kralpora residents protest delay in rehabilitation

Bandipora Nov 20: Residents of kralpora Bandipora on Friday staged protest demonstration and blocked Bandipora-Gurez road for hours against NHPC.

They were demanding the implementation of rehabilitation plan and argued that the rehabilitation fund meant for development of the affected households is being misused by the authorities.

They demanded that Rs. 5500 should be paid by NHPC to each household every month as compensation, promised earlier by the NHPC.

The protestors also said that the project construction by NHPC has damaged houses, roads and also polluted the environment including water and air.

Local resident of kralpora Ghulam Mohammad Khan while talking to Kashmir Convener said that NHPC should pay Rs. 5500 per month to 73 household of the village as promised earlier by them.

He also said that the project construction is not only polluting water but the environment is also under threat. Khan accused the Corporation of adopting criminal silence towards the growing pollution in the area due to project construction.

Another protester Abdul Ahad Najar said they were promised roads, filtered water, schools and dispensary by the NHPC. “The potholed roads reflect the destruction caused due to the construction of the power project.”

“The machinery setup of NHPC is causing incalculable damage to the environment and making life miserable for all sections of the people in the area,” he said.

Meanwhile, PDP Zone President, Mohammad Amin Mir and constituency in-charge, Inam ul haq visited the protesters and assured them that the matter would be taken to higher authorities and asked them to call off their protests. The leaders expressed hope that the recent sub-committee constituted by Chief Minister will solve the problems of the affected families and will be rehabilitated soon.  Later, the residents of Kralpora village called of their protests.
